Brown University

Brown University is a historic private Ivy League research institution in Providence, founded in 1764. It is the seventh‑oldest college in the United States and was the first to openly admit students regardless of religious affiliation. The campus occupies College Hill, blending Georgian and Romanesque buildings with modern laboratories and greens, and houses several schools—undergraduate college, graduate, medical, engineering, public health, and professional studies. Its Open Curriculum, launched in 1969, emphasizes interdisciplinary study and student-centered academic freedom. Distinguished for academic rigor and creativity, Brown is also deeply integrated into Providence’s economy and cultural life.
