Grace Lee Boggs for the Next Generation: Art, Family & Imagination

The Cultural Society/AAPI History Museum invites families, young people, educators, and community members to Grace Lee Boggs for the Next Generation: Art, Family & Imagination, a summer celebration inspired by the life and legacy of Chinese American philosopher, writer, activist, and community organizer Grace Lee Boggs.

Through hands-on art activities, youth storytelling, cultural performances, and opportunities for families to create together, the event will explore how Grace Lee Boggs’s ideas about imagination, community, activism, and social change can be carried forward by a new generation.

Young participants will be invited to visit a variety of art stations, collect themed stickers in a special event passport, and reflect on the qualities that made Grace Lee Boggs an extraordinary thinker and changemaker. The program will also feature two dance performances: Indian Dance and Flamenco dance. What do these dances have to do with Grace Lee Boggs’ idea of community building? Come find out for yourself.

Rhode Island Secretary of State Gregg Amore will offer welcoming remarks. This event is Part 2 of a series of programs presented by the AAPI community in connection with the RI250 commemoration.

This official RI250 event follows the Museum’s May 2026 program, Grace Lee Boggs and Unfinished AAPI Revolutions. Together, the two programs connect history with creativity, intergenerational learning, and our shared responsibility to carry important ideas into the future.

We encourage visitors to support the two food trucks joining us at the event: Nanu Burmese Fusion and Angkor Boba Tea truck. Nanu Burmese Fusion will offer Burmese specialties such as dumplings, tea leaf salad, Shan noodles, chickpea tofu, vegetable spring rolls, and vegan dishes. Visitors may also purchase beverages from The Guild Brewery at the pavilion.

Look for the AAPI History Museum’s activities near the pavilion. Admission is free, and advance registration is encouraged.
