Last Updated: 3:15am

Lying adjacent to Kennedy Plaza, Biltmore Park and The Rink, historic Burnside park was dedicated in 1892 and landscaped following the completion of Union Station in 1898. The Banjotti Fountain (1899), created by Enid Yodel, was commissioned by Paul Bajnotti as a memorial to his late wife, Carrie Brown. Today, the park sits in the heart of Providence and offers shady benches, a recently-restored fountain, and Brandon's Beach Playground.

Hey everyone- remember this cool interactive installation I made with the wonderful support/help of folks at the RISD Museum in January? Well it is riding again for pvd.fest ! Sound//Picture//Sound will take place Saturday evening at the Imagination Center in Kennedy Plaza. I will be out of town playing music at Thing In The Spring, but my brilliant assistant lailaaukee will be running it in my place. Come draw things that turn into sound and then into projections! #sound//picture//sound #pvdfest #kennedyplaza #burnsideparkpvd #providenceri #rachelblumberg

History

The Ambrose Burnside Monument, dedicated in 1887, was originally located where the U.S. District Court is located now. Compare the difference between the current pedestal and the pedestal in this photograph. The pedestal was changed when the statue was moved from what was the east end of Exchange Place to what was then City Hall Park, cutting the height of the monument from 31 feet to 20 feet. This photo was taken in 1891.
