Providence’s Veterans Memorial Auditorium—branded as “The VETS”—is a mid-century neoclassical performance venue that opened in 1950, built on a shell begun decades earlier during the late 1920s. The theater features a gilded proscenium arch, allegorical ceiling murals, and ornate interior detailing. Seating just under 2,000, it stands out for its rare balance of size and intimacy, and its exceptional acoustics. Located on Avenue of the Arts across from the State House, it hosts a diverse repertoire—classical concerts, dance, national touring acts, community events—and serves as home to resident companies including FirstWorks, the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra, Festival Ballet Providence (now Ballet RI), the Rhode Island International Film Festival, and Art League Rhode Island.
