Roger Williams Memorial

A public memorial and landscaped urban park marks the founding site of Providence and honors its founder, Roger Williams. It spans approximately 4.5 acres and sits at the heart of the city’s early settlement. The grounds feature a visitor center housed in a historic 18th-century house, walking paths, groves and a memorial site over the spring that originally drew Williams to the location. The park serves as a contemplative space dedicated to his legacy of religious liberty, free conscience, and fair relations with Indigenous peoples.
