RI State House

A neoclassical landmark designed by McKim, Mead & White, the Rhode Island State House crowns Smith Hill with a gleaming white‑marble façade and one of the world’s largest self-supporting marble domes, topped by the gilded statue known as “The Independent Man.” It houses the General Assembly along with executive offices and contains significant interior features such as a vast rotunda, State Library, State Room, and a museum preserving the original 1663 Royal Charter—in sum, a monument to civic identity and architectural ambition.
