Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC)

A lavish 1928 “movie palace” designed by Rapp & Rapp, this historic theater has evolved into one of New England’s premier performing arts venues. With over 3,100 seats, it now hosts touring Broadway productions, concerts, comedy acts, and special events. Saved from near demolition in the 1970s by local civic leaders, the building was revived and re‑opened as a nonprofit cultural anchor for Providence’s Arts District. Its ornate restoration—returning the gilded proscenium, chandeliers, and decorative arcade to their former grandeur—has preserved the theater’s legacy while enabling modern touring performances.
