Memorial Sculpture Dedication & Unveiling – “Our Ancestors Come With Us” by Spencer Evans

The Board of Directors of the Bristol Middle Passage Port Marker Project invites you to join us in celebrating the memorial sculpture of "Our Ancestors Come With Us" by Spencer Evans. Event begins promptly at 3pm. Seating is limited.

The unveiling event will include remarks by local dignitaries including Congressman Gabe Amo, artist Spencer Evans, and performances by African and Indigenous cultural groups. The public is invited to attend this historic occasion and witness the installation of a monument that seeks to confront the past while offering a message of freedom and hope for future generations.

Founded in 2018, BMPPMP is a nonprofit organization of twelve dedicated community volunteers. The group is part of the national Middle Passage Ceremonies and Port Markers Project, which has identified 52 U.S. ports that participated in the transatlantic slave trade. The Bristol site has also been designated as a Site of Memory by the UNESCO Routes of Enslaved Peoples Project.
