Public spaces are the pulse of Providence, where 400 years of stories invite strangers to become friends because they belong.
Standing among Providence leaders at the @beardfoundation House felt like a dream as we unveiled our “You Belong Here” pedestrian wayfinding system to over 40 national press members in NYC! Soon, 20 acres of our downtown Providence parks and blue riverfront will be knit into one seamless, colorful loop with a multiphase wayfinding project.
The vivid banners, designed by our own @risd1877 graduates Tatiana and Jose at @buenagraficasocialstudio, emerged from our research and conversations with community leaders, neighbors, institutions @rhodeislandhistory historians, and artists. These banners pair with digital immersive maps by @localrobotpvd and five large interactive anchors filled with music and lights @lemondestudio , creating an urban treasure hunt that turns downtown into an outdoor museum. Think of it as a permanent Lumina!
Chris Marsella and his team at @track15ri anchored our park loop, transforming a raw brick train station into our city living room that showcases our diverse cuisine. Kristen Adamo and the @GoProvidence crew ran the event with impeccable professionalism and polish, showing over 40 national press members that hospitality is one of our finest arts.
To top it off, Mayor Smiley @pvdmayor , Providence’s chief marketing officer, has invested deeply in public spaces, putting Providence on the national map and showing the world what makes us special, because we are being considered again as one of the nation’s most walkable cities by @usatoday! When the Mayor’s blueprint put people first, you know you belong in Providence! Thank you @saveurmag for the write-up!
Please join us downtown as we unroll this wayfinding system on July 20th. Scan a code, dance with a musician, share a meal, support a local chef and an artist, brainstorm with a student. Let Providence surprise you and together we will show the world why everyone belongs here! Thank you team @providenceplanning

Last night @waterfireprov illuminated our rivers and downtown parks. It reflects Providence’s spirit, uniting our city, our history, and our community! Thank you @provriverboat for the water centered views!
Did you know in 1801 a great fire destroyed both sides of South Main Street from Planet Street to James Street—turning the neighborhood, then called “Rotten Row,” into ruins? Improvements had already begun when the Great Gale of 1815 struck, yet South Main Street recovered immediately
Waterfire celebrates beauty and connection, honoring that same resilience we all share.
We’re grateful to the @cityofprovidence, The Providence Fire Department and police, and safety teams for keeping us safe, the artists and creative teams, the volunteers who tend every flame, the Waterfire staff who manage logistics, and the generous arts supporters fueling this vision. @risd1877 And thank you to every Rhode Islander who comes to wander the waterfront, feel that warmth, and share the glow in keeping our downtown vibrant!
