Rhode Island Wind Ensemble presents “Young at Heart” November 3rd
Sunday, November 3, 2024 - Sunday, November 3, 2024
The Rhode Island Wind Ensemble opens its 2024-2025 concert season with “Young at Heart,” an afternoon of musical storytelling designed for children of all ages, on Sunday, November 3rd at 2:00 pm at Temple Sinai, 30 Hagen Ave, Cranston, RI. Admission is free and the public is invited.
The concert begins with a madcap musical setting of Dr. Seuss’s Green Eggs and Ham, starring sopranos Isabelle Zeladon and Jacquelyn Van Patten. The musical setting of this timeless story of prejudice, persistence, and gratitude was composed by Robert Kapilow in 1995, and the Boston Globe named it “the most popular children’s piece since Peter and the Wolf.” A brief and engaging pre-performance interactive session between the conductor and children in the audience will “set the stage” for the performance that follows.
Other highlights include Percy Grainger’s Children’s March, Alan Menken’s hit songs from everyone’s favorite Disney movies, and Johan DeMeij’s light-hearted suite The Wind in the Willows, based on characters from Kenneth Grahame’s classic of children’s fiction. “We’re so honored to be invited to perform at Temple Sinai once again this year,” remarked conductor Robert Franzblau. “This concert celebrates the diversity of music that has been written for and about young people, from Disney to J. S. Bach, and the comfortable and informal setting at Temple Sinai make this a perfect venue to welcome concert-goers of all ages!”
